MARKET is a newly opened culinary destination situated in the heart of Calgary’s 17th Avenue SW. Owned by restauranteur Vanessa Salopek and helmed by Executive Chef Dave Bohati, MARKET is one of the city’s top spots for local, comfort food and seasonal cuisine in a relaxed environment.
MARKET is the first restaurant in Calgary to use the Urban Cultivator, an internal home garden that can grow herbs, micro greens and select vegetables year round.
The first thing you notice as you walk into black and white designed restaurant and bar is the bright open kitchen and Urban Cultivator showcasing the talents of the talent, young culinary team lead by Chef Bohati. The scene is a mix of local Calgarians, groups of friends and family and couples on a date night.
The brightly-lit, spacious restaurant and bar has relaxed and casual feel. An installation of whimsical Air Plants bulbs hang over the long bar to one side. Chalk board drawings of vegetation on the ceiling and farm/brand motifs (Maple Leaf, Wheat Shaft, Cow and Pitch Forks) highlight what’s about to be served.
Go for lunch or dinner, go for after-work drinks (on the patio, in the summer) or dinner with colleagues or friends. Book it for a date night or a special celebration.
Chef Bohati flawlessly executes the creative yet classic, farm to market cuisine. Try one of the creative cocktails (Rum Old Fashion, Sous vide Peach Mahattan or Pickled Ginger) to start. Begin with the Mussels & Sausage, Carpaccio, Agnolotti to start and share, proceed to the Market Fish, and Hanger Steak and to conclude, the Strawberry Pavlova to share. Order a bottle of wine from the Niagara Region or one of the many Canadian Craft beers to accompany the meal.
Order a platter of Oysters ($36CAD) to share and Argyle Brut Oregon USA bubbles ($80CAD) to start.
Nothing. Try everything. All ingredients are cultivated in-house or sourced locally and it tastes just so.
MARKET is already a top culinary destination in the city for fresh design and cuisine, alike.
